Why take piano lessons as an adult?
It is a common belief that in order to enjoy playing the piano, you have to start taking lessons from a young age. Experience shows that this is not true. Of course a child can learn some things more easily. On the other hand, adults can understand the concepts behind the music more quickly and are able to think more abstractly, which facilitates the learning process.
Have you always wanted to learn to play the piano but it never happened? Have you had piano lessons before and would you like to resume taking piano lessons? Whatever your background, playing the piano is a great way to develop and express your musicality and I would love to help you in your further development.
Content of the piano lessons for adults
For beginning students, my starting point is your musical interests. I think it is important to connect with your musical preferences and taste. We work on basic technique, rhythm, reading notes, improvisation, music theory, learning to study yourself and stylistic awareness.
Intermediate and advanced pianists are also very welcome. Together we work on refinement of technique, nuance in timbres, understanding the structure of a piece and exploring new repertoire.
Location
The piano lessons for adults in Culemborg take place in my piano studio right in the centre. In the piano studio there is a beautiful Weinbach piano on which I teach beginning students. Advanced students play on my Bechstein grand piano from 1890. Due to the presence of two pianos, I can accompany students. In addition, I have two harpsichords for students who are interested.
All my instruments are tuned regularly. The studio is spacious and has fine acoustics. Furthermore, it is centrally located in the city on the ground floor of a historic house dating from the seventeenth century.
Lesson times
I teach on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the day and in the evening. I teach on a weekly basis, with a minimum duration of half an hour. It is of course also possible to take longer lessons.
The lesson year starts after the summer holidays and runs parallel to the school year, with lesson-free weeks during the school holidays. After taking a trial lesson, registration for the entire year is possible, with a trial period of one month. If you decide to continue your lessons after the trial period, there is a notice period of three months. Depending on the school holidays and public holidays, a lesson year consists of 35-40 teaching weeks.
Registration is possible at any time during the year. Feel free to contact me to schedule a trial lesson.
Rates
For lessons on a weekly basis the following rates apply: a 30-minute lesson costs €26, a 45-minute lesson costs €39. The rate for lessons on an occasional basis is €42 for a 45-minute lesson. Longer lessons on a pro rata basis are of course also possible.
Up to the age of 21 the lessons are free of VAT. For students aged 21 and above the lesson rates are increased by the VAT rate of 21%.
A 30-minute trial lesson costs €20 including VAT and will be paid in cash or transferred immediately after the trial lesson.
At registration after the trial period, the lesson costs are paid in advance for the entire lesson year. You can pay in one go for the entire lesson year, or in two installments. I invoice lessons on an occasional basis quarterly afterwards.
